Assessment of Wind Load Effects on Low-rise Buildings Using Full-Scale Pressure Measurements
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study discusses the wind loads and their effects on Wind Engineering Research Field Laboratory (WERFL) building at Texas Tech University based on full-scale synchronous pressure measurements. The wind load effects on different frames are calculated and the results are compared to those determined based on the wind loads specified in ASCE7-05. Finally, the challenges faced in the modeling of equivalent static wind load (ESWL) for design applications are explored.

The Effect of Surroundings with Different Separation Distances on Surface Pressures on Low-Rise Buildings
Very large roof suctions on low-rise buildings occur for isolated buildings during both full-scale experiments and wind tunnel tests performed by many investigators. This paper investigates the sensitivity of these high suctions to the presence of multiple surrounding building configurations. This study uses as a basic building shape the Wind Engineering Research Field Laboratory building (WERF...
متن کاملShape Effects on the Wind-induced Response of High-rise Buildings
This paper explored the effect of building shape on the wind-induced response of a structure through a comprehensive investigation of wind tunnel studies performed at Rowan Williams Davies and Irwin, Inc. (RWDI). The study focused on buildings with foot prints of square, circular, triangular, rectangular and elliptical shapes. Seed buildings were selected from an inventory of structures previou...
متن کاملEvaluation of Equivalent Static Wind Loads on Buildings
Wind loads on buildings can be quantified through synchronous measurements of pressure over building model surfaces or by high frequency force balance (HFFB) measurements. Although this loading information can be directly utilized for building design applications, current design practice often requires the transformation of dynamic wind loading to the equivalent static wind loads (ESWLs). This ...
متن کاملTesting of Residential Homes under Wind Loads
Aerodynamic testing of low-rise structures is fraught with difficulties that can be the cause of large measurement errors, resulting in the underestimation of aerodynamic pressures by a factor of as much as two. The errors are primarily attributable to the inadequate knowledge and simulation of wind flows affecting low-rise buildings, especially residential homes in suburban environments. A typ...

This paper presents a methodology for the assessment of ductility and strength capacities in low-rise buildings. This method utilizes the characteristics of force-displacement for the lowest story level or considers the weakest story in any given low-rise building for its primary analysis. Calculations are based on two levels of earthquake motions, namely strong earthquakes (PGA=0.3 g), and ver...
